2019 Tablas Creek Counoise ($35)

Ever considered popping open a bottle of red on a warm day? Yes, I realize that doesn’t sound incredibly appealing. But how about after chilling it beforehand? BINGO. And suddenly, I have your attention😏

Last summer, I discovered some amazing light- to medium-bodied reds that knocked my socks off! And my hunt continues… This time, with some exciting varietals that you may have never heard of before—like this Counoise (pronounced “Coon-wahz”), bursting with juicy notes of tart raspberry and Bing cherry. The spicy aromas remind me of what you’d expect from warm carrot cake, fresh out of the oven: sweet baking spices like cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.

Creamy mushroom pasta makes the perfect pairing with this irresistible red, especially alongside some roasted broccoli sprinkled with Parmesan. Can’t forget your veggies!
